You Can Help St. Luke Students Receive Scholarships At No Cost To You!
Introducing...
St. Luke School Georgia Student Scholarship Organization
In May, 2008, the State of Georgia passed new legislation (HB1133) which allows tax payers to "donate" part of their Georgia Income tax for use at private schools for students who are Georgia residents. The donor receives a dollar for dollar tax credit making the donation absolutely free.
St. Luke School is working with the Georgia Student Scholarship Organization (GASSO) which is an approved nonprofit Student Scholarship Organization (SSO) as required by the Georgia Department of Education. This means that individuals and companies can make free donations to this fund and St. Luke School will receive those funds to allot to students for needs based scholarships.
Currently, St. Luke School gives approximately $45,000 per year in student scholarships. These funds must be raised from donations. With the GASSO program, we anticipate being able to give more students financial assistance to attend St. Luke and to allow students to attend who would not otherwise be able to experience the wonderful education provided at St. Luke School.
How Do I Make a Donation to Receive the Dollar for Dollar Credit Off My Georgia Income Tax?
1. Donors complete a pre-approval form from GASSO and mail the form to the Georgia Department of Revenue.
2. The Georgia Department of Revenue will review and approve/deny the request within 30 days. The only reason for denial would be if the $50 million cap for these tax credits has been reached. The credits are on a first come, first served basis.
3. When the donor receives the approval form from the Georgia Department of Revenue, they have 30 days to make the donation to the SSO and designate St. Luke School to receive the funds.
4. The SSO receives the donation and pre-approval form and sends the donor an acknowledgement form. The funds are then sent to St. Luke for allocation to a student approved by the School Board for a needs based scholarship.
5. The donor files the acknowledgement form with their Georgia Income Tax return and receives the dollar for dollar credit off their Georgia Income Taxes.
6. The process repeats annually starting January 1st and is available until the entire $50 million are used.
We encourage you to consider this opportunity which will enable St. Luke School to continue to grow and recruit talented students to join the student body with help from a needs based scholarship.
