The class of 2013-2014 had 68 students. In August 2014, they began their high school careers at: Columbus High School (42), Brookstone School (9), St. Anne-Pacelli School (7), Northside High School (6), Harris County High School (2), Calvary Christian School (1), and Darlington School (1).
NHD Update: Parker Bennett’s NHD project – a website titled “Horace King: Bridging Rights and Responsibilities” – placed 5th in the nation at the National History Day competition at the University of Maryland. Parker’s project also won the Kenneth E. Behring Outstanding Entry Award for the state of Georgia in the Junior Division. Awesome work, Parker!
St. Luke has been named the favorite private school in the Ledger-Enquirer’s Readers’ Choice Awards!
Duke Talent Identification Program (“TIP”) 7th Grade Talent Search: 41 7th graders were invited to participate in Duke University TIP, as a result of scoring in the 95th percentile or above on a recent standardized test. That is 61% of the students in that grade – way to go, Lions!
Congratulations to the 2013-2014 All-District Chorus Participants: Livia Lovett, Maggie Drew, Courtney Thomas, Katherine Moss, Kayla Nickerson, Kaitlynne Cone, Melana Duncan and Anna Carroll. Kaitlynne Cone was awarded All-State Finalist and represented SLS in Athens, GA.
Congratulations to the Spring 2014 Golf Team… The Varsity team had an undefeated season, and won the CVMS City Championship!
Advanced Art students studying the life and works of J.J. Audubon, entered their work in the Audubon Society Art contest. Congratulations to Emiline Myers (1st place), Isabelle Powers (2nd place), and McCartney Witsell (3rd place) for representing the St. Luke School Art Department so well!
St. Luke School sent 25 student projects to the Regional National History Day Competition at LaGrange College on March 21st. The following students and projects placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd, and will move on to the state level competition in May: Historical Paper: Trent Swinehart, Sam Owen; Individual Documentary: Jacob Patrick; Group Documentary: Helen Morgan and Bennett Walker, Kaylee Snodgrass and Avery Brock; Individual Performance: Meghan Gross, Kaitlynne Cone; Individual Website: Philip Adams, Parker Bennett; Group Website: Anna Carroll and Win Cawthorne; Individual Exhibit: Garrett Jimmerson, Mackenzie Crump, Tyler Lee; and Group Exhibit: Emiline Myers and Melana Duncan, Sarah Gordy, Eliza Gross and Anna Sayers. Projects by Parker Bennett, and Avery Brock and Kaylee Snodgrass won awards at the state level competition at Mercer University (April 2014) and will represent SLS at the National History Day Competition at the University of Maryland in June. Also winning an award at the state level competition at Mercer University was SLS 8th grade Georgia History teacher, Chris Shelnutt. She was chosen by the Georgia Humanities Council as the NHD Patricia Behring Award recipient for the state of Georgia. This nomination places her in the running for the national award to be given in June.
St. Luke School students have been awarded the Valley Rescue Mission’s 2013 Caring Kids Award.
Congratulations to 7th grader Davis Hardin, who won first place in the George Walton Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution’s annual American History essay contest. Davis’ win at the district level moved his essay on to the state level competition, where he also placed first!
On January 14th, Sarah Flowers became the 2014 St. Luke School Scripps Spelling Bee Champion. Sarah moves on to the District Spelling Bee at Fort Valley State University on March 1st.
On January 9th, Nolan Jefferson became the 2014 St. Luke School Geography Bee Champion. Good job, Nolan! He now moves on to the District Level competition.
The “Techno Lions” First Lego League Robotics Team placed first overall at the First Lego League Super Regional competition at Columbus State University. They then advanced to the State Level competition. Way to go Techno Lions, Jacob Lewis, Charlie Douglass, Davis Hardin, Parker Bennett, Bryce Mickelson, James Robinson, Ty Bondurant, Drake Braski, and William Oliver!
St. Luke School is the 2013 winner of the Muscogee Moms’ Moms’ Choice Awards for Best Private School. Congratulations also to St. Luke Preschool (Best Preschool winner) and St. Luke Early Learning Center (Best Daycare Facility).
