All rising first graders should read or be read to for at least 10 minutes per day or a minimum of 40 minutes per week, for a total required summer reading of at least 320 minutes. Please use the official St. Luke School Summer Reading Log and fill out each section with:
- Number of Minutes Read
- Book Title
- Parent Initials
The Summer Reading Log should be turned in turned in to the first grade teacher when you visit the classroom on Monday, August 13th. There are so many great books available, but if you need some ideas please refer to the list of Suggested Summer Reading put together by the first grade teachers.
We want to hear about how you spend your summer! Record some of your favorite moments in your Summer Journal. Rising first graders should use a red three-prong folder with 12 pages of plain white paper. All journal entries should be made in this folder. Rising first graders are required to have at least 6 journal entries and each entry should include:
- Words or phrases to go with each entry, written in the child’s own handwriting
- An illustration and/or memorabilia (e.g., movie or park tickets, photos, postcards, etc.)
The Summer Journal should also be turned in to the first grade teacher when you visit the classroom on Monday, August 13th.
